Got a phone tip about some ole crappie. Figure maybe I'll go tomorrow early and find out if it is true. What the heck, why not. Guy says he is tearing them up on 1/32 ounce jig under a float. Said he would gaurantee me three big meals of fillets.

I'm interested, since they must be relatively shallow if under a float. Some of the best days that I have had have been blazing hot mid-day trips jig fishing like 3 or 4 ft deep under a float. Crappies are unpredictable critters, shallow when logic would dictate that they should be hugging the bottom in deep water.

Normally this tinme of year, we caught them trolling deep running crank baits or by accident on walleye rigs. I don't know how deep this guy is fishing. I do know he catches tons of crappie. That is all he fishes for 300 days a week.

Ah, but you're cheatin' son! lol When you fish the small waters(Harpeth,ponds,etc.), fish with worms or whatever, for anything that bites, that's a little bit different than going out on the bigger water targeting a specific fish, crappie, bass, etc. The trick there is really finding the fish,location, depth,etc. and with big water, sometimes that just doesn't happen.

Ah, but you're cheatin' son! lol When you fish the small waters(Harpeth,ponds,etc.), fish with worms or whatever, for anything that bites, that's a little bit different than going out on the bigger water targeting a specific fish, crappie, bass, etc. The trick there is really finding the fish,location, depth,etc. and with big water, sometimes that just doesn't happen.

Fishing is fishing man, you don't have to be targeting a specific fish on a big lake to be fishing... I often target specific fish like carp, catfish, bass, etc, and often I hook up with what I'm looking for, but I got to at least get that little 4 inch bluegill so I can say I wasn't skunked Oh and I want to get on some bigger water soon, maybe not a big lake but more like some catfishing below old hickory dam or something.

it's just insurance lol... only time I really want to catch them is for bait, or out of pure boredom. They do make good cut bait

Cat, I told you before, as long as I'm catching something, I really don't much care what it is, size, species, or whatever. If I'm not gonna be catching fish, my airconditioned(and heated) home is a lot more comfortable. But, there are so many types of sunfish around, and they are generally everywhere, that action saves a lot of trips!

I see lots of water in the bushes... that's a good thing for that style fishing.

I have one Richard. I have a technical problem and when(if) I get it worked out, I'll show you. My little camera, for some reason, fails to download the pictures. The big one worked fine.

Depending on how many you are feeding, we did catch just about that many keepers. To be exact, 19. They were about six feet deep and right under the bushes..I mean right under them. The wind had to blow your float and little nug up under the branches for best results. Once the sun got up and it got hot, it was over.

A warning: It got serious hot to the point twice I got light-headed and dizzy. It scared me and I am not ashamed to admit it. Y'all take care.

Turns out we had to cross private property to put a little boat in but with luck and some serious sucking up, I may get to bass fish that water next spring.
