Another strike out.
2 coyote sets untouched again last night.
Just ain't smart enough to pull it off I guess.
Oh well maybe next time.

Don't give up yet ,make sure you are setting on sign and good location. They could be checking it out but just not sure about the set ,give it a five to seven days then maybe move it around . Coyotes are different than foxes a fox set you can tinker with it ever day and they won't care a coyote won't allow it just let it set then after 5 to 7 days maybe reply lure and bait.

Ditto, try to check your yote sets from a distance and not fooling with em. Let em soak. Sometimes it may be 10 days before you catch.

or sometimes more but after a couple of weeks in rainy weather, check and make sure the trap isnt seized.

i remember a couple of catches where the trap was out about near a month, then out of the blue caught a grey fox(had to release). remade the set(was tore up pretty bad but remade any) and added a scent post set about 50 yards away. 2 days later had a yote in the fox set.

another thing you can do to make a set quick is to pre-make it a couple of months in advance. punch the hole, make the trap bed, and drive the anchor. then when season rolls around all you have to do is bed and and anchor the trap, bait the hole and your done. 5 minutes at most.

also with yotes, you better have those traps adjusted for pan levelness to the jaws,no pan creep on a hair trigger, dog filed square, etc. unless it is a custom trap like a "jake trap". ive never seen a production trap that i didnt have to adjust for yotes. .i set my pan tension to about 2.5 pounds. AND make sure it is bedded with absolutely no movement to the trap and the chain is buried good.
 
I guess that's what i am doing wrong.
I normally only leave the traps out for 3 night max

What kinda sets are you making? Dirt hole?flat set? What bait? Any lure? It won't hurt to put a trail cam up just to see if any are investigating your sets.. they can be hard to trap this time of year. They may be eating apples or pears instead of rabbits.. they love watermelon..

I don't think 3 nights is near enough time for coyotes. I will catch a coon or possum right away, but coyotes (at least for me) always take at LEAST 3-4 nights, and probably most sets sit there a week or even two till I catch a coyote. I am not an expert trapper, but that has been my experience.
 
I've never caught a coyote at a set that hadn't been in the ground for at least 4 days. I think human scent has to fade before they'll go near.
