I was in your same boat 3 months ago. I had the cart loaded at Home Depot....there is no way you can make one cost effectively with new parts. I bought this one from agrisupply http://www.agrisupply.com/string-wing-5 ... ign=SSIDE/
It works great on my ATV. You can also hook it up to a tank sprayer and pressurize it, although it makes the roundup go a long way.

plan on using it Sunday, I'll try and send you a pic. I just tied it on with parachute cord to my ATV grill- my grill goes down to right below my knee. They make a rack, but I was too cheap to buy one
I just ordered the same one, but haven't used it yet. Couldn't buy the parts to build it for the price of the agri-supply one. I was thinking about mounting mine offset from the 4-wheeler so I'm not driving over the weeds I just wiped and getting gly all over the tires. I'll probably use an 8' piece of conduit and zipties.
