Food Plots Weed ID

Does anyone know what this is and what kind of herbicide will kill it? It's starting to come up in my clover plots. Kinda looks like clover, but it grows low to the ground, has a real wiry stem, and it has a small round yellow flower that blooms on it. Grows pretty fast and is starting to choke out some of my clover. I'd like to kill this, but not my clover and chickory. Anyone have any suggestions?

Don't remember the name but I believe 2-4d will handle it.

I didn't research it but I don't think 2-4 D is effective. Maybe someone else will chime in. Just out of curiosity what is planted in the field it's growing in? I think deer feed on lezbedeza fwiw.

black medic or hop clover looks like. It's a legume, and I can't think of any possible herbicide that will kill it without killing the clover. How old are your clover plots? It may be time to rotate through a summer crop and a cool-season non-legume plot before replanting clover.

Thank you Mick. I'm not a weed expert, but black medic is what I thought it was. My clover plots are about 7-8 years old. Gotta figure out how to get rid of the stuff.

If you've had those plots that long, it's likely that clover pests and diseases have built up in the plots. I would strongly consider a warm season plot this summer and replanting in the fall. You could also do a round of wheat in the fall followed by another summer crop, then back to clover.

What would you recommend for a summer plot? Something like buckwheat?

They will build up for any crop- that's why farmers rotate their cash crops. Buckwheat would be fine, as would something like corn. I would avoid another legume, and instead plant a N user instead of a N producer.
