I just seen 3 squirrels cutting a red oak tree acorns... This is July 25th, the acorns are a green as they can be, not very big either. This has me concerned. They must be really hungry!!!!I don't see activity like this for another 3 weeks!!!!

Something weird gong on.

Last weekend I also seen a hickory being cut. Half way opened, like it was being tested. About time for testing, but the redoak was being cut very heavy!!!!

in our area, they are slamming hickory nuts. i have found some hickory nuts as big as golf balls

Same here ...... found a tree that have 5 in it while fishing this weekend

Might just be a lot of squirrels this year. During the late part of the deer season there were squirrels everywhere. Saw squirrels everytime I was out. Not many people hunting them anymore so there may just be an abundance. I've not been into my usual squirrel hunting areas since January so I don't know what the populations are right now, but there were plenty in late winter. I bet we'll have a good season.
