I always used the little leather patch included with my Scorpion Venom wax but lately I've simply rubbed it in with my fingers and I believe it does a better job.

Anyone simply rub in string wax with your fingers? I do lightly wrap dental floss around the string and pull off the excess.

With the newer synthetic waxes that have this and that in them I just simply rub into the string with fingers and leave excess on. When I build trad strings I use bee wax to help the bundles stick and rub with leather after twisting to heat the wax up a little so it penetrates better. But to your question honestly its just personal preference.

Next time you wax the string, try rubbing it in with a piece of brown paper bag. Apply wax, fold the paper over the string and rub quickly.
It heats up fast and just seems to get the wax in much better.
