Anyone have an opinion of which of the 3 value pack dove loads that Walmart carries performs the best? Federal universal vs. Winchester universal vs. Remington sport loads? I've heard quite a few people say to stay away from the Winchesters.. any input? Thanks.

they are all pretty crappy. i went to the pawn shop and bought some 20 yr old field loads that still had some brass on them.

I like the Federal or Remmys better than the Winchesters. I have had a few of the Win loads that sounded a little funny on the sporting clays range. The Federals have a paper based hull, so they smell real good after firing.

They have all worked well for me. I did get a case of Winchesters from Academy sports for 3.99 a box last weekend. That's the best price I have seen so far this year.

Cheap shells = cheap lead
Cheap lead = deformed pellets as they travel down the barrel
Deformed pellets = holes in pattern
Holes in pattern = misses
Misses = more shots
More shots = more shells
More shells = more money

Cheaper in the long run to pay for higher quality ammo and your hit verses shot ratio will go up and you won't really spend that much more than buying cheap ammo.

Of course this is just my humble opinion. I can't hit a dove anyway so it don't matter to me.
:D

I know the 4 pack Federal load that Wally World sells has magnum (hard) shot. I dont know about the other 2. As a rule target loads have hard shot, and a 1 piece wad, the cheapo game and field loads have soft shot and cheaper wads.

Ruger, us skeet shooters proved your theory correct many years ago, also shells are the cheapest part of the hunt

I never had a problem with any shells from walmart. hunting or shooting skeet. I have used cheap and high dollar shells and you still miss. If someone says they never miss or just blame it on the shells well there full of it. Dove are tuff to hit, but its one of the most fun you will have shooting a gun. IMO..
