Wall hanger?

I have my first set of horns on the wall and my son's first set at the taxidermist now. After those, it has to be bigger.

I only have two on my wall. I have a third at the taxidermist. I have told myself that the nexy one has to be bigger than the last. Since I don't have any that break 140 I don't really have any other set criteria. I probably would mount anything over 140. Now my son has a 142 on his bedroom wall. That is very big to me and I feel that it deserves to be mounted.

I was very blessed or lucky to have harvested a 150+ deer in Tennessee. I see a lot of guys laughing at someone's 125" Tn deer when the have 170" Kansas deer mounted. In my opinion there's a big differeance. I can easily see why a guy that has limited funds, land and time gets excited about mounting a 125" Tn deer. I also understand why some one that has been blessed with the resources to hunt where 170" deer are common might not but I can not understand why they think it makes them better. In this day and time big scoring deer are like anything else, if you got the funds then anyone can have a house full of mounts. I hunt as hard and smart as anyone in Tennessee but i know Its very likely if I ever want to match or top my best. its going to take forking out $3500+ and book a hunt that has a better chance of seeing deer that will score 150+. I am extremely proud of my Tn deer but at times I feel it's a curse. I get a lot of ppl who say-wish my deer was like that or it's better than my deer. Believe it or not I actually have friends/ family leave the house discouraged about hunting. Which I don't want to be part of. I said that to say this if your a guy reading these post thinking man I wish I could afford a Kansas, Illinois etc type deer and know that you probably will never get as lucky as some guys here in Tn. Don't sweat it, if you get blessed with a buck that gets your heart pumping. I say mount that sucker with pride regardless what it scores. That's just my opinion though.

Beautiful deer and not a thing wrong with them, anybody that thinks other wise is simply jealous.
A 140"+ buck is all our dreams.

I don't shoot a buck unless it is a trophy worthy of display to me. If I want a deer to eat, or if I want to supply some elderly friends with meat, I prefer to shoot does. As a consequence, every buck I shoot goes on the wall in the form of at least a Euro mount. Since I'm lacking on wall space for shoulder mounts, I probably won't shoulder mount another deer unless it's over 150" or so. My 'buck of choice' this year was 139.75", and he made a beautiful euro mount. Likewise for the big cull 5 ptr that scored 118".

I DO regret not caping them out and saving those capes... they were spectacular quality, and might have come in handy in the future, as I have 1 shoulder mount that isn't holding up as well (poor taxidermy, and 1st deer I ever mounted) that may need to have the cape replaced at some point.

If you ever again kill a beauty of a mature buck that has a "flawless" cape and decide to euro him please inform me.

I have euro'd two this year and regret not saving the capes for someone!! They were perfect capes off mature deer, I have actually spoken with a taxi about saving capes and he is glad to get them. I am not sure if I am confident enough to cape them out entirely without messing them up as I have never done it. I think I am gonna try it next time tho, hate to see them wasted!!

My brother had this same theory, then he shot a 188" deer. He had to change that thinking

dont sell yourself short, I'd bet money that 10 pt breaks 130 and that 9 pt is every inch of 125.

The last buck I mounted is MAYBE a 112-115 8 pt. But he was special to me simply because it's the furtherest shot I've ever made at around 400 yds

I have 2 bucks at about 115" mounted. The second one I regretted, it was an exciting bow kill from the ground, but it just takes up space. I am not big on shoulder mounts anymore. The right buck and I would get one, but fully aware that buck may never come. I have 1/2 dozen skull mounts between 115"-130". That is my preference now.

I'm following the euro route with any deer under 130-140 inches. I have 11 shoulder mounts of deer in the 120-150 inch range, so it will take a good one or an extra special one to get another shoulder mount. I have close to 10 euro mounts and love the look of them. Plus they don't take up as much room!
