View from the stand

I hung a lock-on today. Big thanks to Ahuntin1 for giving me 2 lock ons. I bought screw-in steps for this one and climbing sticks for the other one (for public land) and new ratchet straps.

Anyway, here is the view from the stand. I will need to cut out at least one of the grape vines to make room for the bow, but will try to leave in as much as possible just for cover.

Might cut a shooting lane but might not need it, there are a couple good openings over heavy deer trails. Tough part here will be not jumping them off the bed, but that depends on where they are bedded on a specific day. I jumped two fawns and momma today while walking in to hang the stand. All that undergrowth is great for drawing the bow and shooting when the deer comes into an opening.

I know it's a little green still, but doesn't this make you want to be sitting up there with your bow?

I will admit, it wore me out a bit. I only had 6 screw-in steps. I figured 1 every 3 feet was enough to climb, but didn't think about being perched there trying to strap on a treestand. However there were a lot of thick vines and stuff to use for support and I got the stand strapped on fine. But it did wear me down a little. As much as people complain about the hot, humid summer, I love sweating a good workout in the woods as long as a shirt is not sticking to my back. It's a F&S treestand if I am not mistaken, and I will definitely wear a safety harness when I hunt out of it.

Get yourself a linemans belt. It is 1,000 times easier and SAFER. Mine attaches to my HSS harness

Good advice a linemans belt is not only much easier its much safer as well! Also get a few more steps and you will make it much easier on yourself!

Thanks all for the tip on the belt. It is not as high as I like but high enough and with enough cover. Maybe 15-16 feet up, just a guess

Man, I hope you were wearing a harness or a lineman's belt while hanging that stand. Trying to hang 30lbs of steel while standing on small screw in steps and holding on for your life is bad news waiting to happen.
