just got back from bass pro (sevierville) and they had the new Rem 887. I was very disappointed in this gun. No similarities whatsoever to the 870. Bulky and loose, but the worst part was the action. Keep in mind, I am probably one of the biggest Remington fans on the planet, but I will not be buying this one. Way to similarities to a benelli nova, and I can't stand benelli's. On a positive note....with the armour flex coating on this gun, I don't ever think you will have to worry about rust, no metal exposed at all.

IMO the 870 wingmaster is one of the finest firearms ever made. The 887 may just be the "red headed step-child" in the Remington line.

No doubt. In my humble opinion the Wingmaster is the finest pump shotgun you can buy today, and the older Express 870's are solid as well. The Winchester 1300 WAS a great pump gun in the mid '80's, but their design and quality gradually deteriorated throughout the 90's and early 00's.

But the Wingmaster has always been a consistently produced, high-quality pump. I'll take one over a Nova, BPS, late-model Winchester pump, or Mossberg any day.

Nothin like'em! Just seems here lately that Remington can't hang with "big dawgs". The 105CTI seems to be a bust and the 887 does'nt seem to have the appeal. Hopefully I'm wrong or Rem is in for some tough times.

The 887 is definately no replacement for the 870 but for people who were leaning toward buying a benelli nova it is worth checking out. I would lots rather see those people buy a Remington.

I agree, RNT. That's why I posted earlier I'm a fan of the older 870s. The redesign this year just doesn't do it for me.

When I heard about the new 887 my first response was "Why would you try to outdo one of the finest most reliable guns ever made" I've had my 870 for 5 years now and have never had a problem with it. In my opinion if it ain't broke don't try and fix it.

My 870 supermag is about 6-8 years old, can't really remember when I bought it...anyway, it has never let me down, this thing will be nasty as he!! by the end of the season, may occasionally wipe it off but she does'nt get much. IMO if you have to clean your duck gun after every trip for it to work properly then it's not a real duck gun, I can understand rust and outside appearance. I've seen guys drop'em in 12" of water and take'em apart blow the mud out of the barrel and dipp'em back in the water to "rinse" them off. Still flawless performance. There may be one I don't know about, but I've never seen a benelli that can stand up to that kind of abuse.

I agree I bought my super mag 9 years ago and I bought it used from my stepbrother. It has probally had more than 50 cases of shells through it and is still hammering away never had a mechanical failure. It has jammed a few but that was from me getting in a hurry and short shucking it. 870 most dependable and toughest duck guns ever made.

I was willing to give the 887 a chance from the good looking ad I saw in a field and stream magazine but boy was I wrong. I went and looked at one today in person. It was one of the worst guns ive ever held. It was horribly bulky and and didn't feel good at all. Really disappointed with Remington on this one.
