Velvet Hunt Deer Processors

Anyone know if any processors will be open in west tn for the 3 day hunt ? My son s got his eye on a good buck and wanted it in velvet if possible ! Thanks !

Most dont want to mess with it due to super low harvest and the strong possibility of meat spoilage. Might find someone who has a walk in cooler

Call around. I'm sure there will be one or 2. But as said above the big majority of them around here won't.

Best bet would be to process it yourself. As stated, most don't wanna fuss with the ticks and chance of spoilage, along with the liability of messing up the velvet.

Get you some Velvalok and spray those antlers down ASAP. "Spray" = drench them.

I WOULD GO ON THIS HUNT UNLESS THERE IS A 150! MOST ARE GOING AND KILLING REGULAR DEER.

Would you go on this hunt if you had a 150? SO easy to pattern them this time of the year.

Killing them isn't the fun part. Finding them and nailing down their pattern is what makes the velvet hunt.

I've done it every year except last year (didnt have a buck big enough i wanted to shoot)... im skipping this year even though i have a 150 to kill, im not convinced he is 4.5.

I think most folks are more selective during the velvet hunt than regular gun season.

I'm not sure on that, some go because its easy to kill them right now and to have an inflated score! I'LL only go if the deer is exceptional!

Dave's Deer Processing, or Pipe Dream Farms whichever you want to call it has posted on FB that they will be open this weekend. They are in Galloway.

I do my own, but Hayes in Gibson may take them, maybe. They have a sign up by the road.
