I watched the first 3 UCLA series last night; and then recorded the rest, which I just ran through focusing on UCLA's possessions.

I'm almost at the point where I feel sorry for Nico. I think his dad is pulling the strings, and he is going to ruin him.

He is in for a very long season. UCLA has NO defense, and NO running game. Those two things carried Nico last year, and we made the playoffs almost in spite of his play.

He did make some very good runs, and can hit a stationary receiver. But he, again, killed drives by overthrowing open receivers. One would have been a TD on their second possession.

He also forced throws to receivers that were double or triple covered. He just struggles with those reads at times.

Oh well, I'm glad that we have Joey, and I know that he can't believe that he's here.

Nico is an example of people that had never had big money making big money decisions and it came back to bite him. I understand in that culture you follow the father figure but at some point you have to sit your dad down and say. You've never been here before. This is my chapter of my book and my money. This is what I want to do. I think if that had been the case he would still be at TN and making money and be on the way to being drafted. I think he will have a hard time at UCLA and his draft stock will be minimal by the time he gets there. That being said. I like aguilar. I think he made plenty of mistakes, but they can be worked on. He keeps his eyes down field and goes past his first read without running. Hes also hungry. Hes blue collar and had to earn his way and he plays like that. It refreshing to watch someone play like that.

Good riddance to Nico, his stupid dad, and there parasitic entourage. Stories have come out that his dad demanded to be treated like royalty and staffers couldn't stand him. The pajama pants, sun glasses, and attitude should have told them all they needed to know.
Kind of my thought. He may have been a stud if he'd stayed but we'll never know. Good riddance to him but primarily his dad as he seems to be the a-hole behind it all. GBO! 🍊

Nico made the right decision. He needs to make the money now. And attend class because he will have a short college career and won't even make the draft. IMHO!
Ohh and absolutely TN made the playoffs last year in spite of his subpar play.

I watched part of the first half. Really felt like they'd only installed about 25% of the playbook with him. Very basic. He needed Rocky Top much more than the other way round
Funny how their narrative is/was it was not about $$ but that he wanted be around better OL, talent and offensive scheme. Guess it didn't age well by results of the 1st game for each team

Also funny haven't seen anything from Joel Klatt (the media puppet for them)

He took a significant pay cut. They wanted more than he was getting, Heupel told him to kick rocks, and they had to settle for less in a higher taxed state. Fat daddy rolled the dice and lost big time . I'd say he will lose millions over his college career .

Nico took a 800K pay cut to transfer to California.

I'm here for the Nico hate. Can't stand him or his dad. However, I'd caution all my "told you so's" on a sophomores first game in a new scheme. Kid has plenty of time feed us crow.

Speaking of former vols, how bout ol Squirrel White! Thumping them bammers!

Go Squirrel go! He did good. I might have to eat some crow but I'll go on record saying Nico doesn't have it and never will . He is physically gifted but not between the ears . He's done what he has because he's more talented than everyone but not anymore. He will fold up like a third grade love letter when he hits real attrition and so will his daddy.

Tim Tebow "hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work as hard" if talent won everything the Yankee's would never lose. Id ten times rather play a team of talent than the scrappy team that works as a team and leaves it all on the field. Thats the ones that will beat you. Nico is at a pivotal point in his career. Its his choice now and its not gonna be easy to climb out of the hole he's dug.
Aguilar is blue collar and had to earn what hes got and it shows. He was out there dapping up people after plays. Communicating. His post game interview was awesome. Everything was about trust both ways. Him with his guys/coaching staff and vice versa. He made none of it about him. He seems genuinely glad to have the opportunity. I hope the kid shines!

I'm not quite ready to declare victory. The Utes were probably a better opponent than Syracuse. We will have a true test soon enough once SEC play starts.
I'm only declaring victory on the qb trade, not the season

I feel very confident that Joey is a step up over Nico. Not saying he is the next HH either though. Lots of football to be played and I'm ready for it!

I don't disagree completely that he might turn it around but he's void of a lot of talent around him. I don't think the coaching is as good and also he may be a sophomore but this is his 3rd year in college. The light bulb should have already came on. He doesn't seem to progress through his reads very well and his accuracy is not that great. I think he's gonna be a bust and I sure don't think he will be a quality nfl player.

Was watching the SEC Football Final this morning before church and Chris Doering said he believes the same. After just 1 game I agree.

I didnt watch the late UTAH vs ucla game but UTES spanked them 43-10. From what I have read this morning nico did not do well at all, which is great. Attendance was a little over 35K real excited fan base.
And, according to several, at least half of that 35,000 were Utah fans.

I actually stayed up and watched the debacle. Nico looked as clueless as a Bruin as he did as a Vol.

Easy to see who won the "trade". Nico may have thrown for 250 once in his career going off my memory
by the #'s absolutely, but I am taking those with a grain of salt. On the one hand I believe Utah is a better team than Syracuse, and on the other I believe the Vols are better than UCLA, so that could be at play here, but after one game I agree we got the better of this deal.

That being said, we did make the playoffs in spite of his play (over throws, etc.) I like Aguilar's attitude and work ethic. Those can take you a long way, especially if the rest of the team and coaching staff believe in him and fully buy in.

Agree 100%

But at this point I still have zero doubts who will have the much better season. I've been wrong and time always tells
