Why don't they run the season into February if they want so many deer killed? I know I would be more likely to go thin the herd in late January or early February after regular deer season closed. Anyone else feel the same way? Or is it just me?

Wouldn't matter much in my opinion. If 3 per day with no season limit for 3.5 months didn't get folks to shoot enough, not sure extending another month would yield the desired outcome either.

Yeah it's terrible out there. No deer, elk or nothing. Don't waste your time. Your probably one of those people I see in your car driving down the road by yourself with a mask on.

From 2003 to 2013 Colorado's mule deer population has dropped by 36 percent, despite a reduction in hunting tags.

That's directly from the Colorado DNR. They are also reporting declines in some Elk populations throughout the state, although thankfully the majority of CO elk herds do not have CWD present - yet.

Now prove to me that cwd is the cause. I'm not saying the prion isn't real but what I am saying is the 30/06 kills them 1st. Especially in Tn. Fayette county had some prevalence rates as high as anywhere in the country last year I was told. When all the buzzards migrate to unit cwd I'll believe it. Until then........... have a good time.

I like this idea. I live in Davidson County and I am so busy hunting around here during season, that I don't really have time to take a trip out to West TN. But in mid Jan and Feb when season is done here- I'd absolutely travel the few hours out to West TN to shoot some more deer.

If landowners in the CWD hot zone want more deer killed, they can apply for a depredation permit and most likely be given.

I'm not sure promoting hunters to travel from other non-CWD areas into the CWD unit to take deer is in everyone's best interest given the travel restrictions that exist on a carcass that hasn't been confirmed negative yet. I live in Putnam County but hunt family land in Chester County (CWD zone) and it's certainly made it more difficult to get in a quick hunting weekend.

Maybe they should close the other counties earlier rather than keep one open later.

Back in 2006 Hardeman county hunters killed 6392 deer with 50% being does. Last year's harvest total plummeted to 2681 killed and only 40% being does. With twin fawns everywhere as you've observed, we'll be right back bustin' at the seams in no time flat.

I won't name names but anyone half familiar with the situation already knows him. The guy owns a farm in the Lagrange vicinity and he ILLEGALLY brought in deer from CO (he did so without permits!) It was just a matter of time shortly thereafter...

Why haven't they gone after him and made an example of him?
