Question for those who thaw out meat to cook. I've unfrozen some deer 3 days ago to eat and long story short I got busy at work and haven't cooked it yet, So how long does unfrozen deer meat last in the refrigerator?

If I put it in the fridge to thaw, it takes at least a day or two to thaw. 3 days is nothing. I've eaten it a week after putting it in the fridge and it was just fine. Mine is always vacuum packed, if that matters at all. I don't know. Anyway, you're good with 3 days.

I shot a deer last Friday. Just ate the backstrap tips tonight. Its been in the fridge since Friday. Never frozen.. Delish
I'd say after being frozen should be good at least a week. But, if it's been in your freezer for 2 years, then in the fridge for a week, could be questionable. Some of that depends on how well you packaged the meat.
I found too many of the vacuum sealed meat packages were getting punctured in the freezer and causing some freezer burn. I've been doing what I seen on meateater several years ago. Wrap in plastic wrap, remove as much air as possible, then wrap in butcher paper. I had deer meat in the freezer for 2 years in excellent condition.
Enjoy your kill friend

I ask my 85 yr. old mom " how long will that meat stay good"? Mom: open it, you'll know if it ain't good.haha I love the old timers. BTW I wet age venison 7 days, as long as 10 days.
