My 12 yoa son has dug up a piece of brass with US on it and I am unable to locate any info on it.The piece measures approx.1.25" square with the bottom corners rounded and the top corners square. It has three holes in it 1)approx..25 inch below the top right hand corner 2)approx. .25 inch left of the lower right 3)almost middle of the left side.Any help on what this may be would be appreciated.

Thanks rackandspur my computer is in the shop so Iam having trouble with pictures.Crow Terminator thanks but it is nothinl like it. Hopefully Ican have pictures soon.
 
Believe it or not, that lock piece was my 2nd guess. I was with a guy that dug one down in GA at a site and we thought he really had something good at the time. They'll give you a scare for sure. His came out of the ground a pretty aquaish green color.
 
CT This one is also aquaish green.I noticed as I was looking at Civil War artifacts that the s on this piece was different than the s on the actual war artifacts so I was really curious to this piece.
