Anybody see what was recommended to the commission for unit cwd for this coming season? They proposed adding rifle to the velvet hunt in unit cwd. And intend to make all seasons gun, muzzle, and archery with the exception of the archery only season.

However, they seemed to have forgotten that two weeks were added on to the front of gun season last year, and the 12 days of muzzleloader from last year have been changed back to archery only. With the complaining that not enough deer are being harvested, 12 days of archery are certainly going to result in a lower harvest than 12 days of muzzleloader. Of course last year the juvenile hunt fell two weeks before gun with muzzleloader starting on monday and this year juvenile as it stands now will be one week before. Possibly an oversight, but needs to be addressed to get back a similar number of hunting days with more effective means of reaching the harvest goal.

I've heard these stories about the commission before, but after watching it I realize how true they are. One commissioner asking if landowners have to check in their harvest. And another suggesting how to get land owners on board with letting sharpshooters on their land to kill out the deer by offering them seed or saplings.
 
I'm in the minority and have asked for at least shotgun to be added to the muzzleloader season. Most modern ML's are actually more accurate than the shotguns. I don't think adding the firearms in a couple weeks is going to do much. Hate to say it but you had a lot of people that were probably on the fence about hunting that decided to finally hang it up. We have some here on the forum that transitioned to different hobbies. I make 1 trip out to hunt a family farm and last year I passed does because I didn't want to fool with processing when I go for 2 1/2 days of hunting.

I'm almost tempted to head West and take advantage of the large deer numbers. It would be a pain waiting on the test results but may try it if I can find a good wma with large deer numbers.
 
The public did not kill what the state considered a "quota" and they never will. The state will be paying the USDA to sharpshoot year round in the hot zones to surpress the spread. If the state is only reacting instead of being proactive. They ceased all mineral lick use because of it but only in the CWD zone. Why if thats supposed to help prevent spread then why is that not statewide and try to be proactive etc. Its gonna spread and the state cannot control transportation of carcasses within the state and across state lines. Kill all the deer only for bob to bring in an elk he successfully killed from a cwd hotzone like New Mexico
 
I'm just glad that the TWRA isn't in charge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fewer People = Fewer COVID-positive People = Less COVID-19 Transfer
 
Only state I know of that really didn't go bat $&/@ crazy was Nebraska 20 years ago.

They aren't losing any deer

They fixing to increase doe tags due to numbers rising.

Several states have lower numbers

Ain't it the truth! Just like deer corn and feeders in states like Georgia where it's legal to hunt over feeders. Unlikely they'll ever outlaw it again because of the uproar (even if they get CWD positive cases there), no matter how detrimental to deer herds.

At least TWRA had the guts to change hog regulations years back and commit to exterminating them, disincentivizing importing them for profit-based operations.
