This is the email that I just sent, and yes, I did use the word "harvest":

I would like to start by saying that I appreciate the job that the TWRA does, and appreciate the results that are being seen in the quality of the deer herd statewide. But I do have a few recommendations to make regarding hunting in the great state of TN:


1)Please do not reduce the number of bucks that can be harvested. 3 is just fine. This allows hunters to harvest 1 in each season (bow, ml, gun) if they desire to do so.


2) Simplify the doe harvest opportunities for those not in Unit L. I would rather sacrifice the overall number of does that I can kill in my county for the simplicity of taking them in a less constricted timeframe. In other words, allow "x" number of does to be taken during rifle season after the first weekend, and not limited to only certain dates, even if that means that I can only take 3 total instead of the 5 total that were allowed during the current format of restricted dates.


3) Legalize the use of rimfires for taking turkeys. There is no legitimate safety difference that I can see in using a shotgun vs. a .22lr for turkey if this difference does not exist for coyotes, squirrels, rabbits, etc.


4) Allow hunters to harvest hogs without special permits if they are encountered while afield.


5) Allow the harvest of coyotes and hogs at night outside of deer season.

I'll second that. Can vote for all.

I asked to extend deer season till the end of January. And to allow quartering and dressing bear in the field.
 
I sent one a few things I asked. A shorter season, 2 Buck limit and to eliminate or smaller limit on fall turkey season. And some other things. Was the first time I've sent one in will do so from now on.
 
Is there a meeting open to the public where they discuss this before they set the dates, bag limits, etc. Each year?

I don't think this is part of the season-setting discussion (although BGG or scn can correct me if I'm wrong). This is part of the TWRA's strategic planning for the future. In essence, their long-term vision and priorities.

If you are asking about the season setting process, as soon as the public comment period passes, TWRA staff is given the public comments to review and consider. They are discussed in the TWRA season setting process.

In late March TWRA will finish their season recommendations. The draft of recommendations is given to the TFWC at the April Commission meeting for review. Any major changes will be outlined on the TWRA website at the close of that meeting. The public has an opportuinty to speak to the Commission at that meeting as well.

At the May Commission meeting the proclamations dealing with the seasons and manner and means of hunting will be voted on by the TFWC. Again, there is opportunity for input from the public at this meeting prior to the voting on the proclamation.

If you are speaking about the Strategic Plan, it is available for public comment on our website at this time.

The public turnout varies. The past couple of years there has been very few hunters address the Commission.

The public turnout varies. The past couple of years there has been very few hunters address the Commission.

sounds like we as a group may should plan a visit
