I listened to two days of commission meetings and they passed the baiting bill 11-2. Some of the details about feeder distances and CWD zones have yet to be worked out. The baiting laws go into effect next year sometime.

Purely a money thing because baiting is never good for wildlife. I'd like to get opinions for or against. I'm against because I've witnessed baiting wars and it ain't pretty.

I'm against it. Not good for wildlife. Props up nest raider populations coupled with less people trapping. Risk of aflatoxin poisoning to turkey poults and song birds. Bad image for "hunters" and you can get way more food on the ground with a few dollars of chainsaw gas. Healthy year around forage. I emailed lawmakers and committee members who were looking at and considering this baiting bill. Most of whom have nothing to do with with wildlife management. Very little reply from any of them.
"CWD spreading...lets legalize baiting".
How ridiculous. I could go on and on but Ill stop.

Make sure the whole state has CWD that way they can really get some funds coming in. Someone give me an explanation as to why. I use to put out corn in the off season in front of a camera. But raccoons ate it all so fast it wasn't worth it.

Legislators said thou shalt bait. TWRA doesn't get much say in the matter once that happens
 
First of all I'm not for baiting at all but my question is whats the difference in someone feeding all off season and removing bait before season and someone feeding all year? How does that cause anymore harm to the animals by leaving it out? I truly don't understand the difference.
 
TWRA has the sole responsibility of the wildlife amongst other things. They are a separate entity from the state government. If there responsibility as a separate entity is wildlife. Then who votes what in and what was the point of keeping it separate from the state government in the first place. On my part it was so the state on Tn itself kept its nose of making rules for wildlife. What am I missing here.

They aren't a separate entity. Their authority is within the laws of the state. They just have what we might call a "self-funded mandate" in that they rarely get funds from the state general fund. It would be unfunded if we didn't step up to the plate by buying licenses. Means a legislator can't just arbitrarily cut off the money… but they can pass whatever law they want and if it pertains to wildlife, it probably falling to TWRA.
 
Its still a state agencies, just funds itsself for the most part without politicians being able to take their money, as far as what the voters wanted that's laughable as it wasnt on a ballot, a legislatir got his pockets lined to get it shoved thru
 
I would imagine that more than 50 percent or maybe higher are hunting over corn anyway in my county I am at the farmers coop nearly every weekend or every other weekend getting supplies or odds and ends for our farm and it's amazing the amount of shell corn that gets sold from September-December or the trail cam pictures I see with deer standing in a mountain of corn I could be way wrong here but I know bait is not the secret sauce but the positive to it would be maybe level out the playing field for the honest guys vs the guy that s already feeding a dump truck load a year shooting them off the back porch makes no nevermind to me if it passes or don't I would just assume it not and everyone do it legal
