for those of you who have been on guided hunts please give me some advice. I havent tagged a antelope or a mtn lion and want to plan on doing one of those hunts next year. I know how each hunt works and all. i am looking for experiences you had, was it fun? outfitters, locations, draw or over the counter tags, info like that

The first hunt I went on out west about 10 years ago was for Antelope... LOVE it... it completely hooked me on going out west....

I used SNS outfitters who are based out of Casper WY.... I have hunted elk, mule deer and antelope with them.... Top Notch outfiter....

Don't need an outfitter for antelope... just build a few points in Wyoming and apply for a trophy unit with lots of public land.

But if he plans to hunt antelope next year in Wyoming, he cannot build any points since you build points by unsuccessful draws. However, you can buy a point for $30 when you apply for a permit. And trophy means different things to different folks. I would think that someone who has never killed an antelope would not necessarily have to a have a B & C goat on his first try. That being the case, I wouldn't necessarily be caught up in units that are considered trophy units, but look at the areas that have large populations. There are a bunch of units in Wyoming in which tags are easy to draw without points. Obviously, these are units with very little public land, which is what makes them an easy draw. There is a whole bunch of info on the Wyoming G & F website that would be helpful, particularly for a first timer. I believe that the Non-resident application deadline is March 15, so there is time to start doing your homework, and deciding upon a compromise unit that is easy to draw and yet still has a reasonable amount of public land. Hint: there are a lot of walk-in areas available in these units. There is also a lot of BLM land in Wyoming, but most of those units wherein there is a large amount of public land are the hardest to draw, particularly without points.

I can get you a guys name to call for MT lion. If he doesnt retire after this season. See my post about my CO mt lion hunt. He is not 100% any years. probably mid 50's but you wont find any that will work harder to help you. PM me if your interested. If you want a higher chance at look into Arizona...Desert cats are smaller though.

You know who could tell you probably more then anyone in the country about where and who...Phil Soucy.. He mounts the best MT lion in the country hands down... get on taxinet and track him down... I cant remember what he goes by on there maybe catman. You could always PM George Roof and Ask him Phils info and tell him to KMA when you do. LOL

thanks joey, i got a good one the 2nd time around, she even willing to go to new brunswick canada for the spring bear hunt the last week of may, course i promised a couple days on the coast with some whale watching and such lol whichever hunt i decide on either the lope or cat she will go just for the trip. she doesnt hunt yet but she did ask if i would teach her to shoot a rifle...so theres hope

taximan, for a lion hunt contact Stan Garvey with Garvey Brothers Outfitters in Colorado, 970-864-2243. I have never lion hunted, but have hunted four times for Mule Deer and Elk. He will give you a good honest hunt. I got my largest mules deer in October it scored 177. My friend got one that scored 180.
I have been doing DIY hunts for antelope and mule deer in Wyoming for the past few years. Many ranchers will let you hunt antelope free of charge some will charge for deer hunting. The areas we hunt in Wyoming are not considered trophy areas.

The goat DIY hunts are the easiest solo hunts of all. I carry my wife, when possible. She doesn't hunt, but she enjoys the trips and I enjoy her company. She generally stays at the motel, but I try to include a day or so of side trips just to be fair to her, and, I also enjoy the tourist deals National Parks, historical sites, etc.
