I like turnip greens but the only ones I have every cooked came out of a can.

I planted some and was wondering how y'all cook greens, and which ones do you pick?
all the leafs or just the small young ones?

you can do it either way but will have to cook longer with the bigger leaves, you will need to parboil them for a while then pour the water off & start again & add some seasonings,if you dont change the water they can be really strong,i like the mixed greens most of the time,mike243

What's the difference in spinach and greens?...I mean I know what the "difference" is but when I eat 'em I can't tell the difference....same thing with punkin' pie or sweet potato pie....it's all the same to me..lol

Are they similar to you all as well?

My grandmother made the best turnip greens. She would pick the big leaves and check them front & back for bugs and stuff. Then she would wash them off and put them in a pressure cooker with water and cook them till they're soft. Then she would put them in a skilet with some bacon grease and cook them for a while. I think till the liquid is gone. Then they're ready to serve. Yum! Yum! Wish I had some right now

My mom always boiled ours and I don't care for them until late in the year when they are good and bitter.

YUMMY ! :)

those old pressure cookers were friggin wonderful....i couldnt count the number of times i had cooked cabbage or greens straight out of the garden.

they really were safe...the had solid steel latches to keep the lid from blowing off.....those were the good ole days....in todays world the pressure cooker would be deemed satanic and the cause of life changing injuries and millions of dollars in medical expense casuing the fed govt to step in and ban them for the general public and only allow the use of pressure cookers to democrtas and peta members who happened to be homosexual and african/mexican american.
