Honestly, I'm not convinced planted food sources are the answer to holding turkey in spring. I think it's far more about habitat/terrain. Turkey will shift towards large, open bottomland habitat in spring. Bottomland pasture is pretty hard to beat in spring.

I've never wasted my time with Chufa, and to be honest, I don't think I can ever remember recommending chufa to a landowner for planting. I'm not saying chufa does not work, but there are far better alternatives out there that can also benefit other wildlife species at the same time.

In my opinion, as far as spring food plots, you cannot beat a lush green clover field. It is by far one of the best attractants for turkeys in the spring.

Also, idle fiels that have been recently burned are great attractants as well.

I like a healthy clover field, freshly burned or turned earth, and a maturing cereal grain plot. Turkey love to eat the seed heads off wheat/oats.

x2 chuffa is a pain in the butt. i wouldn't worry about holding turkeys year round. many farms don't as long as they are there in the spring. a

Too much clay and rocks here for chuffa.

It's really a gamble planting anything in spring with hopes of enough growth to hunt over.

Either clover and grains I'm the fall or just turn, disk, till up the soil. Plenty of natural food under the sod

My perennial clover plots overseeded in the Fall with some wheat and wheat/crimson clover plots have alot of birds in them every year. I do have a small stand of chufa but the problem is I dont have very much area with the soil type that I need (sandy). I just have maybe 1/8th of acre cleared in a sandy soil type and turkey wipe that out pretty quick on my place.
