Depends on budget of course but it's hard to beat a Rem 870.

You have many options. As mentioned, it depends on what you wanna spend. My suggestion is to go to your local gun dealers and hold a bunch of shotguns in your hands. Squat down on the floor in shooting position and make sure its comfortable to hold. After that, search for suggested chokes and ammo for that particular shotgun. Then get out, shoot it and find the best choke/shell combo.
As a start, check out the Rem 870, Mossberg 835 or 935, Stoeger P350 or M3500/300, and Weatherby SA459.

Pump = browning or 870 is the only way to go IMO
Auto = lots of good choices. My personal fav is the SBE2 but I'm biased to inertia driven guns. Stoeger 3500 and SX3 are great guns as is the versa max although I'm not much of a Remington fan these days.

I hunt with a Mossberg 835 and 500. Also hunt with a stoeger m2000. About yo buy the m3500 and it will be my turkey gun as ten said I am bias to inercia driven guns to. But I would buy the browning a5 in a heart beat for a good price. Tons of different choices I like 3.5 inch chamber but its all prefernece and what your wallet will let you buy.

Sbe2 is hard to beat for me, it's light and patterns well. I hunted with a browning bps for years and it served me well. I would hunt with a pocket of rocks before I carried a mossberg, I've got some personal issues with their guns :)

Don't get all hyped up about a gun that will shoot 3.5" loads. If you want an absolute turkey thumper that is a joy to carry around all day get an 870 20 gauge - put a SpecOps stock on it, either put a short barrel on it or buy the compact version to begin with, put either an Indian Creek or a TruGlo Gobble Stopper Xtreme choke tube on it, and top it off with a Burris Fastfire III. Grab some Hevishot #6 or #7 3" loads and you're set. This setup will shoot "almost" as good as my 870 super magnum shooting Hevishot mag blends at 40 yards.

I use a Mossberg 835 and love it.
I will say they are a turkey killing machine but man they kick and are crazy heavy.

I like my 835.
I agree they aren't light and because of the recoil I only shoot the 3inch but they pattern great and are pretty easy on the wallet.REN said:
my main issue with an 835 is it is really just a turkey gun. Yes you can shoot doves or ducks with it or just go pop clays but it is just not a fun gun to shoot at all those things. If you wanting something to just kill turkeys with it is great at doing that, Im just not a fan of moss berg in general though. Everyone likes what they like though.

I have killed a dumptruck load of turkeys with a Mossberg 835 but, it is just not an enjoyable gun to shoot.
I plan on using either my browning gold 10 gauge or my Winchester SX3 this year but who knows, I may grab ol faithful again.

wow i could not even begin to understand if you had an SX3 and an 835 sitting there and decide to go with the 835 haha.
I have just decided i was done with pump shotguns these days. I do to much other shooting with mine that I just prefer an auto way more, especially these days when you can get a decent one at not much more then a pump.

Been shooting a 835 Tactical for several years now as well as a 11-87 20 gauge. Im carrying the 20 gauge with Hevi 7's alot more now. I really want a 11-87 12 gauge or even a 870 12 gauge but cant get myself to spend the money.

im not saying you can't use an 835 for an all around gun, all I'm saying is if that is what you are wanting there are far better options. Again not hating on the 835 or anyone that chooses to use one its just not a gun I personally am fond of. I saved up for 4 years to buy a SBE2 as that was the gun i always wanted and man it was worth the wait however while i was saving i used an 870 then a Stoeger M2000 and a M3500. The 3500 was my overall fav but i grew up shooting 870's and 1100s so i am still somewhat partial to them.
The 935 is a great magnum shooter but it struggles big time shooting light loads, just not what it is made to do.
these are my own personal choices by budget, these are all guns i have personally shot and used at some point either my own or a buddies. My rating is based on shoot ability, ease of breakdown and cleaning and reliability/quality (parts, tool marks and overall gun)

2) Remington 11-87 - workhorse but quality can lack in some. If you prefer a gas gun then this would be #1 in this range.

2) Beretta A300 - A tad over priced IMO but an affordable beretta gun that will work every time you pull the trigger
3) Remington Versa Max - most people i know that have them really like them and I actually liked the fit when i shot one. As stated before i am not much of a Remington fan these days as the quality has just gone way down IMO

I gotcha. I am actually thinking about putting a scope on my 835 and just using it for turkeys. I am thinking about getting a 20 gauge rem 870 or Mossberg 500 for my small game adventures.
Its hard for me to pay $900+ for a gun that can do everything my $350 gun can do.I have a friend who shoots a benelie something. Its a super nice gun but at the end of the day my turkey is just as dead as his. To each his own I guess :)
My next gun will be a Benelli M2 20guage. I agree $ on the gun is a difference of opinions. I always said it was nuts to spend that on a shot gun but if you look and one and shoot one the quality is very easy to feel and see. For some it's not worth it. To me it's a once in a lifetime gun that I'll be happy to pass down to my son and hopefully to his. I shoot mine for ducks, dove, turkey, skeet and trap so in the end it was worth it to me.

I love the sbe2 have shot them and almost pulled the trigger to buy one a whole lot of times just cant make myself do it yet. I shot the a5 the other day in a duck blind and holy cow highly impressed just cant get over the looks on the a5 and the super vinci. but I would buy them. awesome awesome guns. im buying the m3500 this week or the next. what choke did you use for turkeys out of it?
