I'm looking to buy a tumbler in the next week. I'm looking at either a lyman 1200 or hornady sonic cleaner. I'm looking for suggestions on which to get. I'm on a budget and cannot afford fancy tumblers. Just something to get my brass clean. Thanks

I've used that style before. And was very pleased. But the hornady cleaner cleans the inside. I like that but it uses a liquid so you gotta let it dry good. With the lyman its dusty and noisy. But does a good job. Just looking for input before I buy and wishing I had bought the other or pleased with my purchase

I have both and most of the time I use layman

Okay, do not buy the hornady sonic. Get over to the nearest harbor freight and pick up their equivalent and save yourself some cash. I bought a SmartReloader tumbler. Since the SR press I bought was such junk I figure I was throwing good money after bad but it works very well and is no more noisy or dusty than any other. here is a link to one.

What you do is lube, deprime with universal decapper, media tumble to get the big chunks off, then use the sonic to get the cases clean inside and out, flash hole included. For fluid, don't buy the factory stuff, use a tablespoon of Dawn, enough water as per instructions, and some citric acid in the form of what canners use to stop fruit from discoloring. Rinse, dry, looks brand new.

I also bought a SmartReloader tumbler, but just a couple weeks ago. Just used it a few times so far so can't say how reliable it is just yet. But it was only $44 at sg.com
