The other day I thought about how much scent our stands must pick up from riding in an open truck bed. What ever I have hauled in the last few days may have left scent in it. Especially if it was a deer or a fuel can. No telling what all may get on it from road mist on a rainny day. What's your take on this?

Never thought about it but I bet you are exactly right. No telling what kind of scents get sprayed all over anything in the back of a truck bed.

I spray mine out and dont worry about it, as the wind is constantly airing it out year round! Now if I were to spill gas or something similar I would definitely take that in to effect!

well considering 2 things

1. from what I have learned here, you can't eliminate all scent, only reduce it, so the deer think you are farther away

2. I killed 4 with little to no scent control (not trying to brag) bow hunting this year (only used scent away body wash and antiperspirant)

I wouldn't worry too much about what's in the bed of my truck.

Now if I am hunting an old buck that I have been patterning and he is pressured and smart, I would be a lot more cautious about scent control and especially the wind.

Just hunt the wind and forget about your scent..

X2 ! You guys have analysis paralysis!

I have deer come at me from every angle and would like to keep it that way.

Well, thats special. So do I, and my climber rides in the bed of my truck, or on my ATV on the trailer. Why? I hunt the wind. ;)

Here's a thought i have never in my life used a scent blocker of any form. and i never "play" the wind. i pick my spot to hunt based on my analysis of the area and hunt it. i have killed lots of deer. and can never recall one blowing and running away because it smelled me. i think this scent thing is getting out of hand a little.

So your telling me it wouldn't bother you or the deer that will smell it if there down wind of you a bit to have diesel fuel all over your stand?

And how in Sam heck do you hunt the wind down in draws where the wind swirls constantly? In one of my best stand locations the wind changes direction about every five minutes.

I play the scent and dont worry about the wind. Impossible where I hunt, as mentioned before the deer come from any and all angles. I feel confident that the diesel fuel thats all over my truck bed could ruin a hunt. Some of you may be hunting dumb deer, but some of us are hunting deer that can pick out exhaust or fuel spill smells in a hurry.
