Trout question?

I was fishing the caney fork river today. After not getting no fish. About to go back home. I just started casting some of my new lure to see how they look.
One of the lures I used was a topwater lure spook and on the first cast I got two bites. I'm almost certain it was a huge trout but I haven't ever seen or catched a trout on a topwater walk the dog lure. My question is do trout hit walk the dog topwater lures in the caney?

They hit big rapalas and clown colored smithwicks a whole lot better than spooks.

Walk the dog lures like spooks have a similar action to floating rapalas and/or stick baits worked slowly, so it seems logical that they might hit a spook on occasion.

We all have our lures that we feel work best for big trout in the Caney. I have a buddy that fishes those BPS walk the dog lures for browns at night and does pretty well that way. Since you didn't see the fish, it might not have been a trout. Keep in mind there are some very large skipjack in those waters that can commonly be caught below the dam during generation. They're aggressive and will definitely hit a topwater. Could also have been a white bass or even a small striper (if it was a big one you would know haha).

Don't forget the smallmouth. Last month I caught an 18" smallmouth on my fly rod while trout fishing. I'm sure that wasn't the only nor the biggest in the river.

I'm betting it was a striper though.

I'm gonna say with a spook, it was most likely white bass...

probably a big Brown...I was down Saturday and Stripe and Browns were hitting top water...
