This morning I finally got a chance to try out the Tasco model 708 20x target scope I got off ebay a while back. For those unfamiliar with them, back in the 60's Tasco actually manufactured high quality target scopes, comparable to Unertl. I also have two model 709 24x scopes just like it.

It is mounted on one of my H&R M12 .22lr target rifles from the CMP. I got this one several years ago. They were less than $200 at the time including shipping.

I was using Aguila match rifle ammunition this morning. I use this ammo for practice and save the good stuff for matches. It can actually shoot pretty good, but has a few more flyers than the Wolf match or Ely I like to use in matches. I don't like to hear the occassional supersonic crack when shooting benchrest. It almost always means a flyer.

Here's some pics of the rifle and scope along with some of my best targets from this morning. I started at 50 yards and then moved on to 100 yards. Just for giggles I shot a target at 150 yards. The group opened up much more than I would have expected compared to the shorter ranges, but it is .22lr subsonic after all, and the breeze was starting to pick up a bit by that time.

Nice groups!!!
Yes, Tasco did indeed make some great scopes in the good ole 60's.
Just so happens I have two still in the box that I bought way back then. Not exactly what you would call "target" scopes they are both 4X12X40 AO one has the very fine crosshairs. Bought them to put on a varmint rig and never have got around to it.

those H&R rifles will shoot,,as will the Mossberg 44,,it is a crying shame no American company`s makes an affordable 22 Target rifle anymore,,

that is very good shooting with a Classic old rifle,,did you get the sights from the CMP with the rifle,,if so you might be surprised what that rifle would bring now..

I did get the Olympic rear and Palma front sights with this one and it will shoot just as good with them as with the scope.

I have a pretty thorough collection of the old Mossberg 22 rifles. I've got some M44 rifles. Three are US Property marked, the others commercial. Also got a few M144 rifles and a couple of Brownie pistols plus many of the other models. I love the old M series full length stocked ones and also the little carbines with the fold down forearm. Never pass up a decent priced old Mossberg 22.
