I am thinking about getting a new trigger, replacing the 40lb one I have on my Savage 300 RUM
The gunsmith at Guns and Leather said he could do it for $90ish.

what do yal think?? I have no idea on how to do it, so I pay someone who knows how to.
He said with that gun he will rebuild it so it will have about a 3 1/2 lb pull, which will be awesome
 
I do not have any experience with guns n leather but don't think $90 is too high. It takes time to do it right. The smith will have to pull the stock adjust, sand, polish, reassemble then repeat a couple times to make it perfect and safe. A trigger job can be a bit of a crap shoot for a smith. If the smith goes too far they will have to purchase new parts and start over losing money. Each trigger even from the same manufacturer will not turn out the same by doing the same work so each must be treated a little different. Then the smith may get lucky and it just take 20 minutes and eat well that night or even charge you less after the work is complete.
The old preaccutrigger savage triggers are pretty easy to adjust yourself if you're up to the challenge. I like them much more than the accutrigger system.
 
Cant imagine shooting that 300RUM with a stiff trigger. Must give you lots of time to anticipate that brutal recoil.
 
I can start to pull the trigger, Then stop adding pressure to breathe . Then go back to pulling.
This should improve my groups quiet a bit. Although they are almost touching now.
Most of the time.

I took it to him this morning, and he said he doesn't know how I could have gotten any kind if grouping out of it, do to the fear factor . I just laughed a little.
He said it would take a few weeks to get it done and I would be very happy with the 3 1/2 lb pull I will have.
I'm looking forward to resign ting it back in when he gets done.
Call me nuts. But I don't mind the kick the much. But then again, after the 5th shot, I can't feel my shoulder anyways. Lol
 
90 is very fair for a new trigger. Figure 75 for a decent trigger and the smith is only making 15 for his time. Now if he's just tuning your trigger and not replacing it... well that is highway robbery
 
I had my 06 done and after one day of shooting,dragged every centerfire I owned back to him and asked could he make them all feel alike? There was some grumping and moaning but then he said yeah, I bet I can do this and while it took about a month, they all have the same feel when pulling the trigger.

Course, i recently broke the 243 trigger so now I too will have to find a gunsmith. Local one wanted over 200 bucks to install a timney.
 
I had one done a few years ago at Paducah Shooters Supply.
Cost me $30.00 and it was the best money I ever spent.
