I'm looking to upgrade the trig assy's on a couple of AR .223/5.56 rifles. From those who have experience doing this particular upgrade, which unit will be the most efficient, adjustable, and easy to install for this app? Thanks in advance!
 
So far, I've found the Tim's for about $269 on ebay. Crap, are they're any out there in the $125-$150 range? I'll be looking to get two when I finally decide.
 
Not that I can't come up with it, more like not wanting to waste $50-$100 on a name that I can possibly get comparable performance out of a lesser brand name with. I'm well aware of "get what you pay for" but also don't want spend in excess for similar performance from a lesser brand. I'm not a target shooter, but want to be able to have a nice crisp trigger wo creep or gritty feeling.

Are factory units near comparable to most aftermarket trigger assy's, or are they just not able to be worked, or even worth the effort, to try to bring their performance up to the aftermarket mark?
 
Bill Geissele's wife started a company (ALG Defense) recently that sells worked factory AR triggers. They are an improvement over a standard trigger, but a Geissele trigger is a night and day difference.

His triggers run from $210-$280

I have the Super Semi Automatic, Super Dynamic Enhanced (a two-stage & my favorite for general shooting), and the Super 3 Gun (a very fast single stage trigger)
 
That's about in line with the Timney's price wise. Gonna look at em a little closer. I'm looking for hunting applications, but have never used a 2 stage. What is the upside to using a 2 stage over a single for hunting applications?

With his two stage triggers, there is a very defined and repeatable wall for the second stage. You can "stage" the trigger there as you're getting your hold point and make the gun go off with additional pressure when you're where you want to be.

You can see the trigger pull profiles of the single stage and two stage vs the standard trigger. The second stage starts at .080.

I do know one pro 3 gunner who uses a Timney. He seems to like it.

I would rather have the 2 stage on an AR but for a rifle to use hunting or whatever and you want a single stage trigger the Timney works pretty well,,

some people confuse the 2 stage trigger with a really bad single stage with creep,

Infoman, reading the chart, the continuing rise (more noticeable on the stock AR) is the measurement of "creep" I gather?

That's correct. The point where the force curves drop straight down is when the hammer is released. A flatter line is more desirable for a smooth, consistent trigger pull through the first stage (see the SD Combat & SD Enhanced).

The SD 3 Gun can be thought of as a single stage with a lot of creep. It feels like it's on roller bearings, and it just goes off.

Correct. Installation is that same as a standard trigger. He just supplies some grease for the contact points.
 
+1 on the Geissele triggers. My 6.5 hunting AR has a G2S and it is a super trigger-short take up that you can feel, hits the wall, then a bit more pressure and she is gone with no grit nor slop. I also have an ALG defense trigger in another AR which is head and shoulders above any stock trigger that I have seen. It is plenty fine for a hunting rifle trigger.
 
It looks like Steve sitting at home trying to get better is about to cost him some money :smile:

I did a cheap cleanup of my factory CMMG trigger that is a lot better, but I would love to have one of these aftermarket triggers on my AR
