Trees Planted!

Well Im in the tree club now and can't wait to see how they grow.

Yesterday I planted 2 chinese chessnuts and 4 pears (3 varieties). Im real happy with the set up I have going. Basically I am lining of a plot with fruit trees spaced 10 yards apart and in a few years Im going to plant plumb thickets in between them. Hopefully this makes the deer feel secure and I can hunt it really well with any Northernly or Sourthernly except SW wind (2 different potential stand sights.

I didn't get any pics bc it was thunderbooming and I was finishing up, but they are in straight, and protected with corrugated perferated pipe for now. Soon I'm going to replace it with cages and mulch...

I have some trimming and training questions so I'll get pics soon so I can start moving forward. Looking forward to watching them. Hope to have some yield in 3-5 years.

sounds good,the black pipe gets awful hot in the summer,Tree tubes from Edward Fort work good,pretty cheap too

I figured there was a better option I just wanted to get something on them for the time being to prevent any curiousity rubbing/nibbling. They are protected. I'll order some tubes this week.

Congrats! I planted a few sawtooths yesterday. Hope to finish one day before work this week. At least got all of my holes dug with the tractor and post hole digger

Agree with FH, the Plantra tree tubes are the way to go.

I'll see where I can find them. I think next year Im going to plant at least 6 more...might see if I can get them by the fall so they can settle in over winter and I'll plant them some day after a morning hunt.

Check NWTF as well for a price comparison.

I like to pot mine right now, keep watered over the summer at my house (I keep them in an area that gets morning sun and afternoon shade) and then plant in November/December. With bare root seedlings, I have some that die so this lets me know which ones have a better chance of making it.
