Tree id confirmation

Been doing a lot of clearing and just want some confirmation or peace of mind that I know I'm leaving the right trees and can stop thinking about it! Hard to tell when their so young and I'm no expert on leaves. I know the red oaks have sharp tipped leaves and the whites are rounded.

Yes. But there are different red oaks, at least in my area. You have Southern Red Oak and Northern Red Oak, theres a few more minor ones that are present as well. I would call yours Northern without seeing the tree. I know its not Southern.

You'll also find black oak as well as scarlet oak. Scarlet tends to be one of the more dominant reds I find on the Cumberland Plateau. Definitely doesn't look like a scarlet from your pics. Scarlet oak leaves tend to have deep sinuses, similar to a pin oak.

In middle TN, you'll also find Shumard Oak, which can look a lot like Northern Red, but it's not nearly as prevalent.

Thanks for all the info I'm sure it won't be the last time I ask. It's great to have a place to go and discuss,confirm, and learn things. Tndeer is a great place with some good knowledgable people...

Looks like a northern red oak on top, but could be another species in the red oak family. Definitely white oak on bottom.
