If you have planted any tomatoes in your yard the odds are they will also get it.

Any time I've had any kind of blight in any of my trees anywhere on my property the tomato plants get it too.

Looks like blight. I will be pruning a pear tree for a lady today that is covered up in blight this year. It's a shame because she has a bumper crop of pears this year.

well..i ended up taking a sample of the tree to a local UT agriculture center, the lady in the front desk said the main dude(scientist) wont be in till monday to diagnose the problem...so i just gave my info and left, i wont be surprised if ther will be a class meeting in my front yard next week :D

they called me and said it was caused by sawfly larvae and told me it was a white ash tree. they found 3 of them in the sample i gave them under a microscope and that it will not kill the tree , that's all i needed to hear.
now that explains the black termite looking flys i find on my windows.....mystery solved thanks to UT ag center, i was hoping they fix the problem too but i guess it wasnt a big concern for them. said them type of fly only attacks white ash trees

Pretty fascinating that there are such specific bug/tree pairings out there. Good reminder of how fragile the ecosystem can be, I guess.

I bet there's a bird out there that only eats the larvae that live on the white ash tree, too :)
