trash plots

I have labeled some of my plots as trash plots or Garbage plots. The reason is that I have had several areas cleared out that was very "trashy" from a select cut before I bought it.

What I have done is left the new(natural)growth and have prepped for food plots. My plan this year is to let everything grow(like green briar) on it's own. With that, I have filled in the holes with clover and other seed that I would if I had sprayed and planted from scratch. I know it won't look as pretty as a finely prepped food plot but I enjoy seeing deer nip the tops of natural browse in my food plots as well as eating the clover and other seeds I have planted. It has that "trashy food plot" look but has a good variety of browse that is not man made.

Anyone else tried this?

I'm not sure if trash plots would be the appropriate description for beneficial natural browse , but based on the appearance to us humans it may be. Deer love ugly :)

Exactly, Humans love pretty woods and I love "trashy food plots". :grin:

I will fertilize and lime in August. If I see the deer utilizing these plots I may keep them for a year around experiment. Eventually I will have two clean plots and three trashy plots.

I'm not sure that's completely true or fiesty red head would have no trouble killing deer every year.....

I like my food plots a little on the trashy side? Sounds like a good idea rich, I have tons of greenbriar and the deer hammer it, and the blackberry and the honeysuckle.
