trapping question

OK so there is a statewide coyote trapping season and it is yearlong. What do I do when I catch non-targeted species like fox and coon after the regular season for these have ended? Animals caught in even cushioned jaws are often damaged.Are they to be released?or dispatched?If released,they are going to be injured so why not just dispatch?

They have to be released. The soft catch traps I have experienced do minimal damage when checked regularly.
