Is there anything in the works to change the law that makes sportsmen liable for damage to trespassing pets? There is no animal control in my county and its a huge problem here. I don't understand how its right for me to be within my lawful rights to trap on my own land and be liable for damage to trespassing pets. There seems to be a conflict with these laws. Just wondering if this is going to be discussed. Thanks!

As you properly stated, that part is found in a statute rather than TWRA Rule or Proclamation, so it would take legislative change.

I have heard of no plans for the agency to request the statute be opened. If it could be done "surgically" where only that was dealt with, it might be doable. But, basically to make the change the whole statute is opened. There is no doubt in my mind that anti-hunting/trapping groups would mount a major campaign to totally stop all trapping. And, there would be other groups that would align themselves with the anti-trappers. I'm not sure what the outcome would be.
