Some of you know I planted my first food plot this year. Checked the camera today and couldn't be happier. I've had sparring pics but this looks like all-out fighting. There's a doe nearby in a pic taken a few min later.

My plan was to bow hunt on my vacation which starts this Friday with 10 days off. But I'm starting to wonder if I should wait until muzzleloader seadon. Just got the stand up tonight.

What would you guys do? Wait or hunt it now while a few nice bucks are on it.

Good pictures of bucks and your food plot. Myself I would wait,but I don't like this heat. On the other hand, those bucks may not be anywhere close to that plot come muzzleloading.

You have bucks showing up during daylight hours, As soon as I got the right wind I'd be in there.

Make dust while the roads dry! Play the wind and be in there while they're around. If your plot is drawing does those buck will prob be where they are during muzzleloader but they may be 3 miles away. Nice pics and good luck.

I much prefer hunting once muzzleloader starts but then again I preach hunting it while it's hot (the sign). I might give it a couple of shots right now while the deer appear to be there.

Based on everyone's feedback, I'm thinking about hunting it early next week. I just put up a ladder stand yesterday and made enough racket for every deer within a mile to hear. Will give it a few days to settle down and reset, then hope for a perfect wind. I'm not touching it unless conditions are just right. Either of those would be a personal best for me.

You can't save deer. Hunt the most recent information. One acorn tree start dropping and they will b gone. Hunt it now.

Just curios what did you plant? I have a power line through my land, but i have no equipment. I have been thinking of renting some or hiring someone to put one in on mine, but haven't pulled the trigger on the idea yet.

This was my first go at planting, and so I'm just as new at as anyone. And trust me, if I can do it, anybody can. I have an old tractor, and I spent a little on an old plow. I planted wheat, red crimson clover, radishes, and turnips. I put out some biologic stuff called Alfaclover (I believe that was the name), and a little rape. I can easily identify the wheat and clover, but I have no idea how to tell the difference between the turnips and radish. I also don't know what rape looks like or the alfaclover. Soil prep was important, but I believe there's a lot of stuff out there that can be planted "no-till." I learned pretty much everything here from the guys who know more about than me. Started learning in the food plot forum right here on tndeer.

If you would be happy with one of those bucks,
hunt it now, but when conditions ideal, and then only sparingly
assuming you plan to hunt there during muzzleloader/gun season.

Looking at this wind very closely... I'm sure this could change, but right now, it's looking like Saturday evening is going to be the best first wind. I need any kind of east wind, East, NE, ENE, South, SE, ESE. Hope it's the not the swirling kind of wind that we all hate.

Most of the pics are PM pics. I'm thinking it might be a bad idea to walk in during the morning and try to climb up the ladder before it gets daylight for fear of pushing feeding deer out. PM hunts only. If any of you experienced plot hunters think different, let me know if I'm off.

Most of the pics are PM pics. I'm thinking it might be a bad idea to walk in during the morning and try to climb up the ladder before it gets daylight for fear of pushing feeding deer out. PM hunts only.

And that said,
if I chose to hunt this spot, I'd get on stand around 1:30 pm.

In the early afternoon, wind (natural noise and movement of whatever the wind blows) is typically near the best point of the day, coupled with when most deer should be bedded. This is typically your best opportunity to get on stand undetected.

Unfortunately, most of the deer using the plot will likely be bedded very close by.
But getting on the stand in the early afternoon, even if you spook some, they may still come back before dark, and may not be spooked that badly.
In fact, you'll likely do more longer term damage to your hunting opportunity (of the next week or two or three) by spooking the deer when you exit your stand. Not much you can do to prevent this, other than hunt that particular spot VERY SPARINGLY.

If you hunt the spot much, the deer will quickly figure out the best time to come feed is way after dark, way after you leave. So too much early archery hunting can reduce your opportunities for later when you're carrying a more effective weapon.
