30-36 inches, as that puts the heat/motion sensor right in the center of an adult deer's body. However, it also puts the camera right in the line-of-sight of deer, and is certainly easier to see by human eyes as well. But that height gets the truest triggers and the best images.
I'm 6'... I usually put mine just below waist high and always put a slight angle down on em. Not much but just a little. Bout what BSK mentioned, 3' or just a hair lower. It takes a little trial and error to get em perfect.
