Not gonna bow hunt this year gonna spend early fall getting the dogs in shape. First year in a while I've decided to get back in to rabbit hunting. Man gave me some rabbit trailing scent the other day said it would help train my pup. Think I'll just carry em to the thickets and let nature take its course.

Wise choice!! But JMO that rabbit training scent doesnt work,a trapped wild rabbit or san juan is best but like you said just walking them through briars is as good as anything..a nice steady slower old dog always good for the pups...good luck!

Any tame rabbit will work for a young pup to get started. But as the pup gets better he will cacth them pretty quick. Also a tame rabbit or even a san juan dosent smell the same as a wild one. Because my old seasoned dogs would not run a tame rabbit.

Never seen a pup that wouldnt chase a san juan myself, pups usually like the short chases! I trap wild rabbits and try let that be my first sight chase. When they lose him they can go back and start smelling for him and continue by tracking. Why buy tame rabbit you can trap real deal for free!
