Hey guys I was wondering if anybody has ever put out Trace Mineral Salt from tractor supply and how it worked for them.Gonna plant a 1/4 acre of biologics full draw this year also. So im ready to get after 'em with the arrow. :]

A 50lb bag of TMS and a 50lb bag of pellet lime will pull every deer in the area to it. For some reason, the lime is the kicker. Not sure why though.

I'll be doing more side by side tests this summer

Well, I guess they probably get a little bit. We actually put the lime down first and then soak it with water and kinda rake it in the soil and then throw the salt down on top of that.

I can say that last year they hammered one of these but hardly touched one with no lime. I don't know what the lime does to the ground but they must like it.

I tested it next to TR's and they deer left the TR alone while digging a hole in the salt/lime.
 
Didn't know about the lime? Will have to try it.

For trace, I always dug the dirt up and poured loose trace and some white salt mix together and raked into the dirt mixed it up and covered over with a little dirt THEN place a trace block or bricks on top.

They seemed to go after and like that dirt. Over time the block or bricks would wash into the dirt and replenish it. But they didn't like the solid block all by itself until it leeched into the dirt for awhile.
 
Well last november i put some deer cane out and put two salt blocks side by side on a different mineral site.....the deer are wearing them both out. It looks like the ground has been tilled there are so many tracks on top of tracks. I went back there today to work on my food plot and I poured a little jug of molasses on both of them.......so im excited to see what they look like in a few days.
 
What about the lime someone was talking about earlier in the thread? We have a spot next to a well on our lease,that is a holding pond so to speak,and it looks to have something that I thought was lime,and the deer and hogs really like it. The dirt has a grayish look to it. Could it have been lime left over from the instalation of the well?
