Anyone else having a tough time with this full moon and the heat?
Yes, the inmates at the San Carlos State Corrections Facility for the mentally ill in Pueblo Colorado.
I had to visit there one day when I was working at the State prison in Trinidad Colorado.
I was talking to the warden when I heard a lot of howling going on. She told me it always happens when there is going to be a full moon. 🤣

Had a shooter working a scrape this morning. At 730. Seemed random maybe because moon was still up. Other then that all my big deer are 230 to 4am like normal. Crazy how many big deer over the years I have pictures of in that 1.5 hour time frame.

No morning, at least till 9, movement yesterday or this morning. I haven't needed a flashlight either hunt. I think they're feeding all night with this moon. Probably just going to hunt evenings the rest of the week if I can get the right wind.

i am just now starting, but my cams are slow for mature bucks. just the october lull with a side of bad weather. i could kill a doe any hunt, but no interest in trying to cut one up in this heat.

I'm seeing really good activity from daylight until 11 . Does, small and mature bucks. I'm seeing acorns everywhere and every deer I see is just wandering around eating. This is without a doubt the most activity I've ever seen from opening day to Halloween on public and private land.

I think the heat has slowed all buck sign. I can't find a rub or scrape to save my life right now, even droppings from bucks or does is hard to find. If I hadn't hunted these spots for years it probably would be a really tough season.

I do see way better activity in the mornings. The afternoons seem to be right at last 30 minutes on average.

Daylight action for me has slowed tremendously in the last 72 hours. It's weather dependent for sure. I also think the deer are concentrated on the limited acorns in my area contributing to lower sightings on my scrapes. Cooler weather this weekend will help, I would love to see some rain also… current long range weather patterns are looking excellent starting about Nov 5th

Yes we need some cold fronts to get the deer moving.

Since this last weekend, I've got a total of two pics on my cameras. Deer have moved from the acorns they were on, and my food plots have dried up. Need to move my cameras to some active scrapes, and put some on a couple of the bigger funnels.

The first cold front of October is always magical and had tons of pics but I couldn't swing it this year. The front last week was deader than a hammer on my cameras. Very slow since. May be 2nd year in a row I never picked up my bow... I just can't in this heat...

I was hunting Christian county, KY last weekend on the MZ hunt. Saw one small buck dogging a doe pretty hard. Had a group of bucks at 60 yards. A 6 point that was by far the largest deer on the hoof I've ever seen, a decent 9 point and a big 4 point. They were all cruising together. Saw another buck with 4 does, several spikes and forkies. Everyone hunting saw deer. Absolutely no acorns anywhere on the property, not much water either, the ponds are just about dried up. It was hot and the deer were moving all day.

I think this little front over the Juvi weekend should help.

However, after that, serious heat Halloween week. The next strong front isn't in the models until the day before MZ opener.

I think my 14 year old has good chances Sunday morning.

I've always said, the best week of archery only season is the week leading up to muzzleloader. I've sat on stand with a bow first week in November and it feels like rifle season but it is still archery only.

Unfortunately, buck activity on my property peaks the first three days of November, and rarely can we MZ hunt any of that (just the one year in seven when MZ opens November 3rd).

Daytime activity peaked a week ago, dropping to zero (in daylight) past couple days. Still getting mature bucks moving after dark, but not a mature buck in daylight past 3 days.

There are still some bucks grouped up in bachelor groups.

Same. I have several bachelor groups still together. Interestingly it's the same summer group but they shifted ~0.5 mi from the summer range.
