Total hip replacement and climbing tree stands

I am having total hip replacement surgery the end of December and wonder if there is anyone here that has been through that and how it affected you hunting from a climbing stand? Also did it affected it any other way good or bad?

My son had total hip replacement at the age of 29 due to injuries in Iraq. He uses a Summit climber and has had no issues. He does mention that his climbing sequence is changed due to shorter stretches in the "sit climb" process between the upper platform and lower platform. Make sure you tie off the two platforms in the event your feet slip out of the lower.

Make sure you go do a surgeon that performs the anterior approach THR. Many of my patients that have the anterior approach have a smoother recovery and experience less pain overall than the ones that have posterior approach.

Absolutely. The anterior approach requires much less restrictions. Posterior approach restrictions are no bending your hips beyond 90 degrees (right angle, which would be a problem climbing), no internal rotation (turning your toes towards each other) and no adduction past neutral ( no crossing your legs). Definitely look into finding a surgeon who will perform anterior approach if using a climber is important to you.
