Food Plots Top sowing wheat?

Any opinions on top sowing wheat versus dragging/discing it in?

I was working a plot Sunday and planned to disc, sow wheat, lightly disc it in, and top sow turnips. Before I finished discing, it blew up a pretty good rain. Enough to make the freshly turned dirt muddy. I went ahead and sowed the wheat, but with the mud I couldn't really disc it in. With the wet ground, I'm hoping it will germinate and take off. Any experience/success with top sown wheat like this? I'm wondering if I should have planted it thicker with it being top sown.

I've done it several times with great success, that's the great thing about wheat it will easily grow on top of the ground as long as it gets a little rain or there's enough moisture in the dirt for it to germinate. The only problem I have had is the birds eating the seed before they sprout.

One time I spilled some wheat in the bed of my truck on my rubber bed liner mat and in about 2 or 3 weeks I had a stand of wheat in my truck bed 5 or 6" tall[emoji2]

To early for wheat, deer want eat it after it starts getting tough.. best to have your plot ready for wheat around the 15 of Oct....that way it will be good thru Dec... Just over seed your plot with wheat , it will come up on a rock...lol

Maybe so, but with October being the driest month waiting till then to so may mean that come muzzleloader season you might be looking at a dirt field!

I'm over seeding wheat on plots that are already established and you can plant your wheat as early as you want but after it become tough and they are not eating it i guess you can look at a green field....but i don't have any dirt plots myself...good luck with your wheat....
