Too many stands?

Is there such a thing as too many stands. A friend and I hunt 80 acres, mostly wooded. We have 3 stands on the property and are adding 2 more. They are spread around pretty good and we don't hunt every day. We try to hunt together when our schedule allows, but many times only one of us is on the property at a time. Just curious how many stands would y'all have on property this small. Our reasoning was for hunting the wind. I also use a climber here and there for spots we dont have ladder stands.

I say you can't, but what you can have is too many hunts on those stands.

I agree with the overhunting Food Plot. That's why we don't go all the time. We try not to over hunt what little bit we have.

I have 6 stands in a 50 acre block of woods. I didnt even hunt one of them last year because the wind was blowing the wrong direction each time I was able to go hunt. On the rest of the farm there are about 12 stands and 4 box blinds. Total farm is a little over 220 acres.

We have a 210 acre lease , i think we have 14 stands up , and 4 more in the barn just in case , lol. Only 2 of us on the lease and we very seldom hunt the same stand 2 days in a row. IMO , you need a few options , and the wind dictates which stand i will be in on any given day.

I hunt a 66 acre farm that I have 4 stands and a ground blind. Overkill? Maybe but I never even climbed in one last year.

My last stand I put up because the neighboring farm kid hung one literally right on the property line, with the seat pointing down the line not towards his field. He parks his truck on my farms property and walks to his stand. Tried talking to him but he got chitty and really ticked me off.

So, I hung a stand about 10 yards from his and was in it as much as possible.

In my opinion, no. The more non-mobile stands (ladders, strap-ons) you have up, the less you hunt each stand. And overhunting stand locations is one the biggest mistakes hunters make.

I've got up 42 ladder stands on 500 acres. That averages out to one per every 12 acres.

I'm with you. I'd like to be able to walk from stand to stand. Really allows you to hunt where you want no matter weather/wind. Additionally it keeps deer from patterning you as quick.

I have 7 up on my place, and will put more up as I see new travel routes that I haven't noticed in the past. Always niced to have several options to hunt when the wind changes.

On 180 acres we have 3 shooting houses, but only 1 gets used during gun season most of the time. We set up 4 ground blinds. And there are currently 14 tree stands. Thats for 5 hunters, with only 3(now 2) being up there most weekends. The other 2 might sit 4 weekends a year.

Our goal was to have 4-5 options per hunter. That way each of us can play the wind as best we can in deep woods, move to a spot thats active morning or night and even early season vs late season.

As long as the stands aren't stepping on each other or cutting off the trails from each other, you can't have too many options.
