Too early to plant tomatoes?

I am thinking about going ahead and planting my tomatoes this weekend. Is it too early? The say it will get down into the mid 40's next week.

The very reason I always wait till early May. April is just too unsettled, temperature wise, for me....and tomato plants just don't like cool weather.

Mine have been in the ground over a week now.

no problem planting them now, but you may have to baby sit them a little. We could still have a little frost this time of the year.
I will be putting mine out next week.

Climate prediction center is predicting below average temperatures for the next two weeks. Accuweather has temperatures for my area moderating the last week of April. I think I'll wait till then.

I have decided it doesn't matter. If you wait til into May when the ground warms a little more they catch up to any planted early and you don't have to worry about them. But dang it's hard to wait. Drives me crazy thinking they should be in the ground every nice day.

I get it a hurry every year and end up having to babysit the plants. Like tonight, we will very likely see some frost and I'll be covering my plants. Like redlegs said, if you wait the plants will grow faster with a warmer ground.
I get the itch this time of year and have to get them in the ground.

I'm gonna wait until we get back from vacation on May 8th to plant my garden�this has been a crazy spring with lots of cold snaps.

I agree with redlegs 07. I've tinkered around with it and purposely stagger my plantings. The late plants catch up to the early plants. The earlier you plant in the cooler temperatures, the more that can go wrong.
