Thoughts on Quota hunts this yr.
I saw the change coming with so many does but the lack of taking any. I would love it if they went with what you said about coming in during bow season to fill the doe tag or make it a quota of say 75 does during bow season or some set number and when that quota was filled then they close it til muzzle hunt or rifleI could be missing something, but they look like the regular hunts to me.
The Yuchi hunt was one of the best in East TN, but they took that away by making it antlerless only or earn a buck. I think they could control the doe population better by making it earn a buck, but opening it during archery season so if you drew the gun/mz tag, you could go early and shoot your doe and get that out of the way. But, I hadn't thought of that until after the comment period when they changed it last year, so I can't really complain.
I guess what I was asking, is what are peoples thoughts about the different areas. Which hunts you saw alot of deer, etcI could be missing something, but they look like the regular hunts to me.

IMO, it drew some of the point holders away from PI. Now that they've done away with it, PI is the only hunt to be saving points for and will only be that much harder to draw in the future.Yuchi was what I built points for until they decided to wipe it out with earn a buck. Just not a great option in TN anymore. Look to the South for better options.
Haven't hunted Laurel Hill. What about Laurel Hill or Willamsport
Completely different hunts and are managed differently by TWRA. LH has antler restrictions and minimal doe harvest. Williamsport is a free for all. What about Laurel Hill or Willamsport
I made that comment before it passed, even called a commissioner, but it fell in deaf earsI could be missing something, but they look like the regular hunts to me.

I really like OR. If I didn't already have plans for the dates I like to hunt, I'd probably put in for it too.Knowing Oak Ridge they will cancel again. I rolled the dice there as I don't have the time to really invest in traveling and learning a new area this year.
Food for thought; if they're called Wildlife Management Areas, aren't they all management bucks?I put in on catoosa. I killed a 9 last year and an 8 year before. It's not a bad hunt. This year I'll probably hold out for a better quality deer instead of just shooting a management buck.
15 inches wide or 4 on one side in catoosa.Food for thought; if they're called Wildlife Management Areas, aren't they all management bucks?
Put in for aedc both hunts but seen they increased the quota from 600 to 900. It already was crowded. Are the results back yet?
Hey Scn, could you check on the results of the drawing and PM me what I was drawn for?
Just kidding with ya.
That's a big jump in numbers. I wonder what their reasoning is?Put in for aedc both hunts but seen they increased the quota from 600 to 900. It already was crowded.
I assume the deer numbers are growing. The archery hunts are same as statewide now. I feel the should have had a 3rd hunt than a 900 hunter armyThat's a big jump in numbers. I wonder what their reasoning is?
Adams just up the road in Powell... 102 Shipe Rd, Powell, TNI am going to put in for Oak Ridge even though I don't think it will happen. But on the off chance it does happen can anyone recommend a good processor and or taxidermist if I need one in that area?
Makes perfect sense on places like chuck swan where they still have active church every sunday!Watch your dates...don't assume the hunt includes Sunday. It makes no sense to me.
Talked to the wildlife manager for Yuchi last year - he said they went to earn a buck because the herd was getting close to 80/sq mileYuchi was what I built points for until they decided to wipe it out with earn a buck. Just not a great option in TN anymore. Look to the South for better options.
