From what I've seen, that would not be the case. The best logging jobs I've seen were done by very small, independent loggers. That doesn't mean small loggers always do a good job, but the best jobs I've seen were done by small, independent loggers.
I also tend to see better jobs done by loggers when the job is part of a long-term timber plan. Loggers will do a good job if they think the job will be reoccurring every few years. It's the one-time, whole-property jobs that end up being environmental disasters.
