Anybody going to South Cherokee for the bear Archery hunt? I saw it opens September 14th. I went scouting today found some sign, but best of all I found acorns! I put up a camera what looks to be a nice bear trail. Hopefully I will have some pics for y'all.

I will be trying it this year. I have never specifically targeted bears, but have seen them while deer hunting. Looking forwards to doing a mini "backcountry/backpacking" hunting trip for bear to prepare for going out west next year.

Not that I'm concerned with what you do, but your not "supposed" to use trail cams in CNF. There's seems to be a lot of bears this year, you've got a 50/50 chance of being in the right place at the right time. Good luck!

Yeah stupid me read the regulations after I put the camera up. I went right back and pulled it. Gonna contact the area manager and see if I can get an approval for my camera. Thanks catch dawg. I don't want to break any laws.

You should try another area of the state that has a higher probability of success during archery season.......

Where would that be? I might be interested in a DIY bear hunt.

South Cherokee is bordered on the south with a overpopulated bear reserve and and on the north by the park (also overpopulated). I don't think you can find a higher bear population in the state on public land.

What county are you looking at hunting?

Probably Greene and Cocke counties since that's where I'm from originally.
