Couple of questions.

Do you like it and find it easy to use?


We have got to get one and that is the one I'am leaning towards just haven't decided what would be best for us yet.

the question is still out on this one, getting to many varied results on testing what I thought was equal ingots and shown in the background of picture

I am going to test some cast boolits on Saturday, I will report back then with an update

if my boolits test as random as the ingots I will probably go to "certified 20:1" by the end of the year
 
? using 1 for target shooting are you more interested in keeping the bullets from being too soft & leading the bore up ?.i know theres a middle ground but would not most barrels need a little different hardness due to the bore being somewhat different dia?.was just wondering as your search for the best accuracy continues :)

from what I have read and told by guys at Buffalo Arms, 20:1 lead tin mix is giving the very best accuracy at long distance. they are also stating that certified lead will continue to produce cast boolits that are much closer in weight than what I am getting

its been reported that anything less than 20:1 will result in the boolit slumping sideways as it travels down barrel

all of my info is coming from shooters out west who are some of the best and compete on a regular basis in long range matches

and yes, non leading of bore is a major factor in the equation

Had just read something about an individual smelting his ingots in cold weather. He had stated that the ingots smelted in winter were harder than the ones smelted in summer. A response to that was that the cold weather was causing the ingots to cool much faster thus causing the hardening.

I had to move my casting operation inside to a controlled environment, my mold should be back to me by the first of the week, if I end up using certified 20:1 lead, I will sell you this tester real cheap
 
Why would you want to go certified 20:1 when any mix of boolit materials of the same hardness should give equal results?? At least from I have read up on.

this comes from my competition skeet shooting days, I was one of the lucky ones and could shoot a shotgun in competition with the best in the world, so not I am on this black powder thing, and wanting to duplicate what the best in the world are doing
 
i have learned from welding/sodering things together over the years that after being heated to liquid then cooled off then reheated it took more heat to reach liquid the 2nd time.if you have a batch that read too soft you might try a reheat/retest & see if the results change without adding any more material.maybe its tempering but who knows for sure,

Intresting and you may have something there.However everything I have read on casting says it how the casting cools that affects the hardness of the bullets or alloy not the heating.Heating temp or melting temp can be used to get a est of what one has if an unknown alloy or material is being used.In short 20-1 should remelt at the same temp reguardless of how it was cooled.
