What is the trout limit (2009 regulation) on the Tims Ford tailwaters (Elk River)?

I have checked the regs and it appears that there is no 2/day limit (or size limit) on brown trout in these waters. That would make the limit 7 in any combination of browns and rainbows. I think it used to be only 2 browns/day and I don't know when/if that changed. I just want to be sure before I do something stupid and string a third brown illegally.

All I know is when we owned the farm right under the dam we'd go down to the "turnhole" and camp and we used to slaughter them right before they'd start generating. We could catch anywhere from 40 to 50 per evening.

I don't think there is a trophy reg on the Elk. As far as I know, the limit is 7 trout in any combination. Double check the 09 Fishing Guide to be sure, because I haven't checked.

You could just be on the safe side and keep the rainbows instead. :)

we used to wear them out all the way to farris creek but now the majority of the fish stay within 2-3 miles below the dam. there is not near as many trophy sized trout as there was a couple of years ago. dont get me wrong you can catch the occasional 20+ incher but they are not as abundant as they once were. dont get me wrong there are still tons of stocker bows and browns but its nothing like the caney.

TWRA was at the last Trout Unlimited meeting, and the biologist is saying the goal is to maintain trout-friendly temps at least as far as the temp gauge at Farris. That should give 9 or 10 miles of trout water at a minimum. Things got a bit screwy last summer when they were experimenting with spilling water, but hopefully they've got that sorted out now. I think the days of trout fishing at Old Dam Ford are over, but it's my understanding that it often got too warm for trout that far down anyway.

I need to fish the Elk more. I don't get down that way as much as I should.
