I HAVE HUNTED DEER MY ADULT LIFE AND EITHER I HAVE MISSED LOTS ABOUT DEER BUT I NEVER KNEW THAT TICKS WOULD GET ON DEER .I THOUGHT THE DEER HYDE WAS TO TOUGH AND THEY WOULD NOT BOTHER DEER.I GOT AN 8 POINT TUESDAY MORNING AND ON THAT DEER NECK WERE 5 TICKS I SURE WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE
 
Most every onei kill early season are ate up with ticks on their ears.

I killed an 11 pt early season one year and he had a hole about the size of a dime that was eat through by ticks. I was covered in them by the time i field dressed him and then my uncle got covered in them when he caped him.

My uncle is a taxidermist and finds live ticks on deer even in the winter time.
 
Have been finding ticks on my deer all my life, but NEVER have I saw the amount of ticks on the deer like this year. These old bucks we killed in late NOV were the worst, with literally dozens and maybe hundreds on their chest and neck, then flip them over and they were ate up with those little bugs on their bellies in the longer hair. Worst yr on the deer I have ever witnessed by far for the bugs.
 
Tennessee is rampant with tick infestations. In bow season I kill deer with hundreds of them on there bellies. I would love to see some eradication efforts made toward the tick species. Little b@$tard$ gave my wife chronic Lyme disease along with 3 other chronic parasitic coinfections. Gentlemen these little buggers are dangerous, very dangerous. Just watch the documentary "under our skin" and it may make you think twice about how stringent your tick prevention protocol is when you see someone suffering with severe chronic Lyme disease.

I've heard that butcher shops see quite a few ticks drop off after the carcass has been hung in a cooler for awhile.

I've seen a few on some of the deer we killed. I have seen them so bad that the deer looked like he was peppered with them. I've also seen them close up a deer's eye because so many were concentrated around it.
 
I've seen ticks crawl off of a deer cape after it has been in a deep freezer for weeks. The are resilient.

Has anybody on this thread have any experience with beneficial nematodes for tick control? I've considered using it on my place but it kind of weirds me out a little.
 
I only kill 1 or 2 deer a year but in my 25 years of killing and skinning deer I have never noticed a tick on a deer? I have seen some on my trail cams that look like they have some on them but never seen one on a deer I killed even in bow season. I find them on me almost every time I check cams in the pre season or turkey season.

Never heard of these things… Just researched them. I'm not sure they kill ticks.
 
Not to hijack the thread but I've been looking into the beneficial nematodes for tick control the past couple of years. This article was published in AgResearch Magazine back in 1998 https://agresearchmag.ars.usda.gov/1998/mar/tick. Apparently they've come a long way with flea and tick control since they are selling pest specific nematodes now. I'm just worried about a backfiring effect, the nematodes getting out of control and attacking non-specific hosts. Very sci-fi....
