My son and I are roughing it out in a small cabin in the woods. 430 wake up , eat get dressed and finally hit the stand! This is our first cold weekend hunt and first north wind hunt this year. Hoping for a blessed morning. Any thoughts from anyone about tomorrow after all this weather this week?

I'm thinking it will be a good one. I've had a lot of good luck on a good cold cloudy morning after a rainy night in the past. Best luck on these type mornings has come on food plots. Never know unless you try.

I think the deer are hitting the food plots and fields more right now. Food is prob getting slim in the woods.

Get in stand at 11:00 am and hunt till dark Hard to do, but I've had great results in late season. Done it three times in the last three years and never stayed longer than 1:30 with meat in tow. Im always after meat in late season.

And welcome to the site :)

Only thing that might keep the deer from moving good tomorow is the forecasted 15-25mph winds.. Still none the less they may be moving good early in the morning after all this rain pushes thru. Good Luck!

Good luck. I'm headed out in the morning also. Im 35 & this is my first year hunting. I have loved it. I haven't got one yet but I got my fingers crossed for tomorrow. My friend and I haven't seen much at all since I missed one a few weeks ago. Just coyotes.

Shoot every coyote you get a chance to. Wont hurt your hunt a bit!! Take all of em you can. Good luck on your 1st one!!!

Just got in. Saw 13 does crossing roads in about 8 mile stretch, hilly country. Light drizzle here.

...and away we go. One more week and that's all she wrote. Going to be cold staring into the wind this morning but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm in Knox county. I've been in the stand for a little while now. The rain has been light, if any. The wind has varied. I'd say 8-15. Hopefully it will die down before too long. I haven't had much time to hunt this year so I'm gonna stick it out. Good luck to everyone out there.

Loudon county public land. Big group of does cruises in front of me at 60 yds along an edge where an oak flat meets some thick cover. I aim at the biggest one. Just as I am about to fire my shooting stick slips. Rifle goes off in the general direction of the deer. Total miss. They run for the hills. Pathetic!!!

Debating whether to head home for a hot breakfast or stay on stand. I was planning to do an all day sit but after that fiasco I'm having second thoughts.

I would trade with you in a heart beat!!!! I am sitting in the office. Most of the time, deer do not know where shots come from anyway....they just run when they hear it.

Snowed in Wilson Co this AM. My Dad had one slip by him around 7:30 and I had a spike come in around 8:10. My brother was leaving and had a big doe standing right off his drive way around 10:30.

It wasn't a morning of deer sightings at all! Not one. Crazy part is today west north west winds, tomorrow back to a south wind. Never thought much about it but weather and women are a lot alike, cold on one day warm the next. Can't complain to much though, my 7 yr old got his first buck and doe this year. On the other hand, I somehow missed rut. And deer have proved to be not only gun shy but camera shy as well. Maybe after January's youth hunt I'll put my feeders back out and hopefully the deer we have let walk are still able to mature.

What a nice frost! Fan batteries dies about 2 o'clock, I looked out and thought I saw snow. Deer will be searching high and low for food overnight. Hope they stay up for a nice sunrise!
